NECTA, which stands for the National Examinations Council of Tanzania, is an autonomous and independent government agency responsible for administering and overseeing national examinations in Tanzania. Established in 1973, NECTA’s main tasks include conducting the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), Ordinary Level (O-Level), and Advanced Level (A-Level) examinations.
The PSLE is taken by students completing their primary education, while the O-Level examination is for secondary school students. The A-Level examination is taken by students who have completed their advanced secondary education. NECTA also administers other specialized examinations for technical and vocational education.
