The University of Dar es Salaam Academic Staff Assembly (UDASA) is pleased to announce Professor Chachage Seithy Loth Chachage scholarship fora prospective beneficiary to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Dar es salaam in the 2020/21 academic year. Chachage scholarship is set to recruit candidates with academic potentials to pursue a postgraduate degree in their area of choice at the University of Dar es salaam to further the pursuit of knowledge.

Chachage scholarship is made available in honor of the late Prof. Chachage who was a distinguished academic at the hill and a UDASA leader committed to advancing academic freedom and social responsibility in Tanzania and beyond. This year, the scholarship will be in its second round after the students who were awarded the scholarship in 2017/18 have completed their studies.

SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT 2020/21    

1.0 Scholarship  Description 

The  University of  Dar es Salaam  Academic Staff  Assembly (UDASA) is pleased to announce Professor Chachage  Seithy  Loth Chachage scholarship for a   prospective beneficiary to pursue a  postgraduate degree at the University of Dar es salaam in the 2020/21 academic year. Chachage scholarship is set to recruit candidates with academic potentials to pursue a  postgraduate degree in their area of choice at the  University of  Dar es salaam to further the pursuit of knowledge   

Chachage scholarship is made available in honour of the late Prof. Chachage who was a distinguished academic at the hill and a UDASA leader committed to advancing academic freedom and social responsibility in Tanzania and beyond.  

This year, the scholarship will be in its second round after the students who were awarded the scholarship in 2017/18 have completed their studies.          

2.0  Eligibility  criteria         

To  be  eligible  for the  scholarship, the applicant  should;                      

  1. submit  the  required  scholarship  application  material;        
  2. be enrolled to pursue a  postgraduate degree on a full-time basis at the University of Dar es  Salaam;          
  3. be a citizen of  the  United Republic  of   Tanzania;      
  4. posses  an  undergraduate GPA, not below  3.8;     
  5. be  motivated  to be  an  academic at the  University  of  Dar  es        salaam (those employed as tutorial assistants are encouraged to apply);           
  6. be ready to assist   with UDASA  activities as may be requested from time  to  time;               
  7. be ready  to commence his/her studies  in   the  2020/2021  academic  year               

3.0 Value of scholarship  and number of awards         

The scholarship covers university tuition fees, stipends, and research cost as stipulated by the  University of  Dar es  Salaam for a  particular degree programme. The tuition fee and research expenses will be paid to cover the regulation period of study only and will be subject to the submission of good progress results averaging B+  or higher. No extensions will be entertained.   The number of beneficiaries will be determined by the cost of the programs for the shortlisted applicants.                 

4.0 Application  process         

To be  considered  for the scholarship, the applicant should submit;          

  1. evidence of admission into a  postgraduate degree at  the University  of  Dar es salaam;          
  2. academic certificates;   
  3. itemized program expenses  detailing the fee  structure and      all           other  related costs;             
  1. for  those employed at the  University  of  Dar es  salaam;  a           supporting  statement from the  Principal, Dean or Head of         the Department  stating the  applicant’s  potential and  whether          there has been no other funding  allocated  for the same purpose;        
  2. a  brief  CV, maximum two A4  pages;            
  3. a motivation letter   stating why  you should be  considered for  the scholarship;          
  4. a brief concept note stating your research interest, a maximum of two A4  pages.            

5.0  Closing Date  

Interested applicants should submit their applications in confidence to the address below before or by 15th  September 2020 at the end of business day i.e. 16:00hrs. Shortlisted applicants will be called to appear for an interview.
